Dr Robert James M. Boyles is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at De La Salle University in Manila, Philippines, where his scholarship centres on artificial intelligence ethics and the philosophy of AI. His research examines the ethical implications of AI-enabled clinical decision-making systems, particularly how such technologies may shape the moral reasoning and professional judgement of healthcare practitioners. Through his SEA Bioethics Network fellowship project, he explores the potential for AI-supported ethics platforms to contribute to moral deskilling among healthcare workers, especially in contexts where institutional ethics support remains limited. His work seeks to critically assess both the promise and the ethical risks of integrating AI into clinical decision-making in the Philippines and similar settings.
