Associate Professor Dr Crystale Lim Siew Ying is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences at UCSI University and the Chairperson of UCSI’s Institutional Biosafety Committee. Dr Lim is actively engaged in research on host-microbiome interactions, antimicrobial resistance, and nucleic acid detection methods. She is an award-winning educator and researcher, notably the recipient of the inaugural L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science National Fellowship in 2006 and the John David Williams Memorial Award in 2013 (International Society of Chemotherapy). She is an accredited Trainer with Malaysia’s HRDCorp and a Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Ministry of Health. Her project, “Advancing Regional Bioethics in the New World of Gene Editing: A Comprehensive Professional Development Programme,” aims to enhance ethical decision-making, safety standards, and security measures in gene editing research and its applications. This project will strengthen collaborative networks, promote greater regulatory compliance, and support a more responsible, resilient, and sustainable ecosystem for gene editing research.
