Building Capacity in Bioethics: Empowering Local Communities in Laos

The objective of this workshop is to foster open dialogue on current bioethical issues and explore effective strategies for addressing them within Laos and the broader Southeast Asian context, aligning with international standards. The Southeast Asia Bioethics Network has, as its primary aim, the establishment of a regional bioethics network in which the Network will play the role as the leading resource for bioethics in Southeast Asia. This workshop serves as a step forward by the Network to forge connections and relationships with bioethicists in this region and, more specifically, Laos. The workshop is also a platform to understand contemporary regional bioethical issues and engage with relevant stakeholders and communities to co-produce meaningful research and context-specific solutions. The subject areas that are covered include healthcare ethics, disability, culture, data sharing ethics in research, research grants and publishing. It is hoped that the workshop will provide opportunities for equipping professionals who are practising in bioethics, researchers, academics, clinicians and policymakers with adequate knowledge of current developments in the realm of bioethics.
