Karolus Wangi is a nursing PhD Candidate and Graduate Assistant at Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing, Pennsylvania State University, USA. He is originally from East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. His research interests are intersected between nursing, bioethics, and health, including ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI) in genomics and health technology. He is deeply committed to advocating for people with genetic conditions or vulnerable groups and is concerned with their dignity and health equity issues. He uses nursing ethics lens to address bioethical issues in health care practice and public health and inform the policy. His dissertation research will explore bioethical issues related to dignity in patients with transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT) and their nurses. This will include issues of health equity related to CRISPR-based gene editing therapy for patients with TDT in the context of patient care in low- and middle-income countries and sociodemographic disparity settings such as Indonesia.
